The difference with atmosphere
Earths atmosphere differentiates it from other celestial bodies. The atmosphere itself allows water and gases to stay inside the atmosphere instead of flying off into space. The gases that comprise the atmosphere allow life, by blocking harmful ultraviolet rays and giving the materials needed to make organisms. Also, by having an atmosphere, we have weather, causing erosion and changing the planet. Energy is also restricted and released, causing much less drastic temperature changes than other planets.

Their is one definite reason that there are seasons. the reason is how far above or below the sun the earth is. when it is higher, the north gets indirect sunlight, so it gets less energy, and thus less heat. However, the south is facing the sun more, and has a more direct angles, and more heat. the opposite is true as well, when the earth is lower, the south gets less and the north gets more.

perspective
In the book zoom, by Istvan banyai, an object is shown zoomed very close in, and as it goes out what you think of it changes greatly. I made several inferences, which after a short while turned out to be correct. It deals with perspective in the way that by looking at something differently, your opinion about it changes. As he zoomed out, I realized how tiny that once gigantic thing was.
Many times in my life, I realized that from a different perspective, things look very different. When I was very small, I thought that 3 years was as long as it took for all of history, but where I am now, I realize that 3 years aren't as huge a time frame as I thought, and one hundred isn't that monumentally huge of a number. If I put myself in the shoes of another person, my view on things would change. In this years presidential running, if a McCain voter thought of the race as an obama supporter thought of it, he might see some points and issues differently.
Scientists need to view alot of information to do thier job, and perspective is important for that to know on all scales the information about the object. A botanist might be more interested in studying the cells and genes of the plant versus just the plant. An artist might be more interested in the small writing he put on a penny, rather than the penny itself. It would be very helpful in astronomy to have both ends of perspective when studying planets, to know its general shape and spin or axis, or to know what its soil and surface are like.
